A Marrakech hammam experience is a good way to understand daily life in Morocco. People go to wash, rest and talk. We choose a clean hammam that welcomes visitors, and a local host explains what to expect before you go in.
You can choose the hammam alone or add a massage. Prices start from €40 per person. You book now and pay on the day.
1What happens in a traditional hammam
You change, receive towels and sandals, then sit in the warm rooms to relax. Next, an attendant spreads black soap on your skin and rinses it off with warm water.
After that comes the kessa, a firm glove scrub that removes dead skin, and a ghassoul clay wash for skin and hair. Finally you rest and drink mint tea. The whole visit takes about two hours.
2Separate by gender, or private rooms
Traditional hammams are separated by gender, or they offer separate times for men and women. Some also have private rooms, which suit couples and families. Your host explains the arrangement at your hammam when you book.
Your guide does not come inside with you. The attendants look after you in the hammam, and your host waits outside. If you would like a female guide for the briefing, ask us and we will tell you honestly whether one is available.

A stress-free visit, with no harassment or commission shops
Hammams near the main squares sometimes attract touts and fake guides who offer cheap deals and then add costs. We avoid that. Your local host takes you to a hammam we trust, and the price is agreed before you go.
Nobody pushes you toward extra treatments or shops afterwards. Your host politely keeps pushy sellers away on the walk, and you choose any add-ons yourself, such as a massage.
Your local host: licensed, knowledgeable and honest
Your host is a licensed local guide who speaks English. They explain the steps, tell you what is normal and answer any worries. Many first-time visitors feel shy, and a calm explanation makes a big difference.
They are also honest about the experience. A hammam is not a luxury spa, and the scrub is firm. If it is too strong, you can ask the attendant to use less pressure.

5Practical details: what to wear and bring
Wear a swimsuit or disposable underwear, which many places provide. Bring a hairband, a change of clothes and a little money for tips. Leave jewellery at your hotel, and drink water before and after.
If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, check with your doctor and tell us when you book. We meet at your riad or the nearest gate, then walk or drive to the hammam.
