How much is a tour guide in Marrakech? The answer depends on the length of the tour, whether it is private, and what you want to see. Prices can differ a lot between an official guide and a person who offers help in the street.
In this guide, we explain what affects the price and show our own rates. We also cover tipping in dirhams and euros, and we list what is not included. Our aim is to give you a clear picture before you book.
How much is a tour guide in Marrakech, and what affects the price
Several things change the price. The main one is time: a half day costs less than a full day. A private tour usually costs more than a shared group walk, because the guide spends the whole time with you. Group size, the language of the tour and special interests also matter.
A car or driver adds to the cost, and so do entrance tickets and meals. If you want a guide for a long day outside the city, the price increases further. We list the price on each tour page, so you can compare before you book.
Season also matters. Prices can rise at peak times, such as spring holidays and the end of the year. Booking early gives you a better choice of guides and dates. Finally, special requests, such as a guide for a photo walk or a family with young children, may need extra preparation.
2Our prices for a private guide in Marrakech
Our medina walk costs €30, and our historical tour costs €35. The food tour is €45, and the city tour is €35. For a full day, the price is €55. A private guide is €45. The exact details for each option, including what is covered, appear on the tour page.
You pay on the day, so you do not need to pay online. If you are not sure which tour suits you, send us a message on WhatsApp. We tell you honestly if a shorter or cheaper option would work better.
All our prices are shown on the tour pages with the details. We do not add surprise fees for the guide. If you want to add a car, a driver or a special lunch, we give you a clear quote first. Honest prices are part of a stress-free visit.

3Official guides and unofficial guides: price and risk
An unofficial guide may quote a low price at first. However, the cost can grow with extra stops, commission shops and requests for tips. The quality and the knowledge also vary. You may spend less money upfront and then spend more in shops.
A licensed guide gives you a clear price and a clear plan. You know what you pay, and you know the guide is accountable. For most visitors, this clarity is worth more than a small saving.
How much to tip a guide in Marrakech
Tipping is appreciated, but it is not a rule. Many visitors give about 100 to 200 dirhams (roughly 10 to 20 euros) for a half day with a private guide when they are happy. For a full day, many give more, perhaps 200 to 300 dirhams (roughly 20 to 30 euros). For a group, travellers often share the tip.
Cash in dirhams is best. Give the tip at the end of the tour, directly to the guide. If the service was poor, you do not have to tip. If it was excellent, you can give more. These figures are only a guide to what many visitors do.
If you are unsure, a simple rule helps: tip for the service you received. Many visitors say a warm, well-informed guide is worth a generous tip. Others give a smaller amount if the tour was short. Both are fine. Remember that tipping in Morocco is a thank-you, not a requirement, and a sincere compliment is also appreciated.

5What is not included in the price
In most cases, the guide fee does not include your entrance tickets, meals, drinks, taxis or souvenirs. Entrance fees at palaces, museums and gardens are paid on the day or bought in advance. Majorelle tickets, for example, are timed and bought online.
Tips are also extra. Check the tour page for the exact list, because the details differ by tour. If something is unclear, ask us before you book. We prefer to answer a question than to leave a surprise.
Plan a daily budget for the rest of the day. Many visitors spend a modest amount on lunch in a local restaurant and a little more on a rooftop drink or a pastry. Taxis within the city are usually cheap, but agree the price first. With these costs in mind, you can see the real total before you book.
6How to get good value from a guide
Decide what matters most before you book. If you want an overview, choose the medina walk. If you want stories, choose the historical tour. If you want to plan your own day, book a private guide for four or eight hours.
Travel in a small group or with family to share the cost of a private guide. Start early to avoid the heat and the crowds. Finally, ask what is included, so you can budget for tickets and lunch.
