A Marrakech Jewish quarter tour shows you a side of the city that many visitors never see. The Mellah sits beside the royal palace, yet most people pass through it on the way to Bahia Palace. With a private guide, you stop, look and understand what you are seeing.
Your guide is a local who knows the stories of the families, the traders and the craftsmen. The walk is slow and respectful, and there is time for questions. Prices start from €35 per person.
1Jewish Marrakech: what the Mellah tour covers
The Mellah is the old Jewish quarter of Marrakech. It was founded in the sixteenth century, close to the royal palace. For hundreds of years, Jewish families worked here as traders, goldsmiths, tailors and doctors. Many of their houses still stand, with tall fronts and wooden balconies.
On this tour, you walk the streets and learn how the quarter was planned. You also visit the places that remain, such as the synagogue and the cemetery. Your guide explains customs and history in plain words, so you need no background knowledge.
A respectful guide to the Mellah and its heritage
This is a heritage walk, not a performance. Your guide speaks calmly, answers questions honestly and respects the sensitivity of the subject. Visitors of every faith, or none, are welcome. People often say that the stories of neighbours living side by side are what stays with them.
We do not state set opening hours here, because access to the synagogue and cemetery can change. Instead, your guide checks on the day and adapts the order of the stops. If a site is closed, you still learn about it from the outside.

3Stress-free walking with no touts or harassment
The Mellah borders busy areas, and visitors with maps often attract offers of help. Some of these come from fake guides who want payment later. Others come from sellers who invite you into a shop. It is better not to deal with this alone.
Your guide politely keeps touts and pushy sellers away. They know the right words, and they know which offers are friendly and which are not. Because of this, you can concentrate on the history. We also never lead you to shops for commission.
Your local, licensed and knowledgeable guide
Our guides are licensed and live in Marrakech. They know the neighbourhood, and they explain its past with care. An expert and knowledgeable guide can tell you what has changed, what survives and what is still debated by historians.
Honesty is part of the service. If your guide does not know an answer, they say so. They would rather tell you that than invent a story. If you prefer a female guide, ask us and we will tell you honestly whether one is available.

5Practical information for your Mellah tour
We meet you at your riad or hotel, or at the nearest gate. The walk takes about three hours at an easy pace. Streets are mostly flat, although surfaces are uneven. Wear comfortable shoes and cover your shoulders and knees. Carry a light scarf or cap, as men may be asked to cover their heads in the cemetery.
Mornings are cooler and quieter. Summer afternoons are hot, so bring water. Entrance donations or tickets are not included, and your guide tells you what to expect. If you use a wheelchair, tell us when you book so we can plan the route.
